The Night Of is Going to get Rough

The Night Of is the sort of show that just keeps getting more and more intense as each episode passes. Naz’s life is in total shambles, but to his credit, he appears to be holding it together fairly well. That could change, and perhaps will in the next episode. The preview for the third episode of The Night Of shows more of Naz’s new life in prison, and it’s not the best.
To set the mood, Naz is asked if he is afraid for his life. Apparently it never occurred to him that he should be. Although people still can’t get their hands around the fact that Naz is the killer, and he continues to deny it, the evidence only points in one direction. Jack insists that he’s a good kid with no priors. But that is not going to be enough to save him.

The most interesting part of the preview, and also the most ominous, is when a police guard tells Naz that someone wants to see him. It’s not, however, an official or someone on the outside — It’s another inmate that we don’t get to see yet. The quick scene brings back memories of Oz, and could prove to be a turning point for Naz. He could end up being not quite so alone in prison, assuming the mystery person has good intent. Naz’s face can also be seen on the front of a newspaper.
Next: HBO did very well this spring.
The Night Of isn’t the kind of show that inspires ideas of happy endings. It’s going to be an even tougher road going forward, as Naz’s battle keeps feeling more and more uphill. Hopefully we’ll get see more Box vs. Stone action, as their unique dynamic is one of the show’s many bright spots.
