Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel Returns Tuesday
HBO Sports continues to heat up with a look at the Olympics
HBO may be one the premier spots for great comedy and drama television, but it also has a strong and proud sports tradition. HBO has long played host to various sports events and talk shows, even if that’s not what many people think of when they think about HBO. HBO has been on a good kick recently with Any Given Wednesday and its star, Bill Simmons, but now it will have some company.
HBO has announced that Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel will return this Tuesday, kicking off another season of sports related talk. Real Sports is a tad more journalists in its content than Any Given Wednesday, and for that it is considered one of the most prestigious shows of its kind. It’s also been on for more than 20 years. Having Real Sports on Tuesday and then Any Given Wednesday on, well, Wednesday, sounds like a pretty good deal.

Real Sports dive deep into the International Olympic Committee and the controversial 2018 Olympics that are set to take place in Rio. For those not exactly in the know, the current conditions of Rio are not conducive to an event like the Olympics. Poor economic conditions, completed with corruption and widespread Zika virus are mostly to blame. It’s not pretty.

To fully explore the state of the 2016 Olympics and its possible repercussions, Real Sports will present a special extended episode next Tuesday, July 26th. This is the first time that Real Sports will be giving a single topic such focus, and it’s a worthy one. Even those not plugged in with sports will likely want to give this one a watch, as the Olympics is a worldwide event that is about far more than sports in general.
It likely, however, won’t be the most fun watch out there.
