There will be more Ballers in your Life
HBO has renewed Ballers for a third season
Ballers has been a meaty little hit for HBO. It hasn’t gotten the best reviews out there, but it does supply a reliable bit of fun as a spiritual successor to Entourage. It’s also a reliable source of ratings, and that can easily be more important that critical reception. Less so for HBO, but it does still play a part.
In a statement released today HBO officially announced that it has chosen to renew Ballers for a third season. It was kind of a forgone conclusion that the Ballers train would keep on chugging, but this is exciting news for fans. The new Head of Programming, Casey Bloys, said a few works to mark the occasion:
"“Dwayne Johnson, Stephen Levinson, Mark Wahlberg and the rest of the BALLERS team have once again delivered a winner for our viewers…We look forward to another great season of BALLERS next year.”"

While you don’t have to be a football fan to enjoy Ballers, it certainly doesn’t hurt. According to HBO, the fist season went on to average about 9.1 million viewers all in all. That’s a nice little number. The compiled ratings for the second season haven’t been made available yet (it’s still airing), though they have been mostly steady.
Ballers aired a bit too late to make the Emmy nomination cut off, though its first season received no nominations. While it is uncharacteristic of HBO to support a show that doesn’t bring in awards, it’s not unheard of. Girls is set to enter its final season and it has long been snubbed at awards shows. It’s true that Girls and Ballers are very different shows, but they do have this in common.

It’s also relatively uncommon for HBO to renew a series before the previous season is finished airing, though there have been some high-profile cases in which it has been done. Vinyl was renewed for as second season early on, though we all know how that turned out by now.
Rejoice, Ballers fans. There will be more of The Rock in your life soon enough.
