The next The Night Of puts Naz in court

The last episode of The Night Of — the one that brought us into the second half — was the best episode of the season so far. And since the entire series is only set to be eight episodes long, we might as well amend that to say “of the series.” It showcased a lightness that we hadn’t seen before and ended with John looking down a dark alley. It was tense. The next episode, titled “Samson and Delilah,” will ride that same wave.

The preview beings with Freddy simply asking Naz if he liked his past life. What should really be an easy question to answer trips Naz up a bit. The Night Of has made it clear that Naz wasn’t all that happy, and he says as much in the first episode during his talk with Andrea. He has grown into a different person in prison, a person that he may like better.

Box continues to prove into Naz’s life and finds out that he transferred schools to one more out-of-the-way. While it’s a fair question why he would do that, it’s not a particularly interesting one. There could be a myriad of reasons why he chose to transfer, and it makes Box seem like he’s starting to grasp at straws even though he has all the evidence already that he needs. We also get a peek a John, so we know that he ended up unscathed. It would have built more tension to not put him in the trailer, but it also would have been gimmicky. The Night Of is better than that.

Chandra will be getting more screen time which is a nice plus. She’s been an interesting character so far, and John and her make an entertaining, if unlikely, team. There aren’t any good hints as to what the episode title is supposed to mean, though it is obviously drawn from the biblical story. It could be referring to Naz’s day in court, which we will get to see.

Next: High Maintenance has a new trailer.

Oh, and just a friendly reminder, there are only three episodes of The Night Of left including this one.
