The Subtle Beast Returns on The Night Of
Box will play his role as a subtle beast on the next The Night Of
The Night Of took a bit of a turn in the last episode, choosing to explore an avenue that we didn’t think it would necessarily go down. There is no hint of Andrea’s dad in the preview for the next episode of The Night Of, titled “Ordinary Death,” which instead chooses to focus on Naz’s continuing battle in court. And thus returns Box, the subtle beast, as he takes the stand.

Box gets the lion’s share of screen time here, and it’s immediately made obvious that he isn’t playing around. His answer to the question of what made him finger Naz is perfect Box, and he’s not wrong, there is a mountain of evidence.
Box isn’t a villain here; he’s just doing his job. He has no choice but to follow the evidence, and so far john is the only one that knows the possible truth about Andrea’s dad. That separate thread is nowhere to be seen in the preview which is a little odd. The revelation that Andrea’s dad could be more heavily involved here than previously thought is a big deal, but TheNight Of is comfortable with glossing over it for now.
The title of the episode, “Ordinary Death,” could refer to the circumstances of Andrea’s murder, though there was nothing ordinary about it. Or it could just be something that Freddy rattles off during one his many meetings with Naz.
Next: Nic Pizzolatto working with Robert Downey Jr.?
Box has taken a back seat recently so it’s exciting to see the subtle beast back in action. The Night Of has gone to great pains to not frame Box as true opposition, regardless of the fact that some of it was undone last episode when he was going through Naz’s Facebook page. John is going to have to seriously get to work to prove that Andrea’s dad was behind her murder. This isn’t the type of show that guarantees a happy ending.
