Will Naz be a free man in The Night Of Finale?
The Night Of will decide Naz’s fate tomorrow
The Night Of has so gone on for seven weeks, a span of time which is both too short and impressively long. It feels like we’ve been following Naz for much longer than that. We’ve watched him start as a “doe-eyed” kid in a rotten situation and end up as a man hardened by prison. There’s also the possibility that prison just roughed away Naz’s edges, showing us his true nature. As of right now, that seems the most likely scenario.
One way or another, the case over whether or not Naz actually murdered Andrea will come to a close during the finale, “The Call of the Wild.” There are a fair amount of loose ends to tidy up, such as Andrea’s weird step dad and that super awkward (and kind of forced) kiss between Naz and Chandra. The Night Of doesn’t promise to answer all of its questions except for one: will Naz be proven innocent?

Unless John and Chandra get all of their ducks in a row quickly, that doesn’t seem too likely. Andrea’s step dad would have to confess, Duane Reade would have to be rounded up, and perhaps Trevor would have to take the stand. The Night Of has always been a show about the justice system and all of its pitfalls; this could just end up being another one.
Naz is not a sympathetic character. There are no real “good guys” in The Night Of, though perhaps John gets the closest to that archetype. If Naz didn’t start as criminal, he certainly is one now. And at least to a certain degree he likes his life and the power that he wields.

If Naz is proven innocent the justice system would have done its job correctly, but that wouldn’t make it a happy ending, at least not for Naz. There is no happy ending here. The Night Of has done an admirable job of proving that point.
