Westworld’s Thandie Newton Talks Nudity
Thandie Newton on filming Westworld
Westworld faced a bit of trouble earlier in the year when it was delayed, sending an exciting production into the ether for a while. That event was preceded by a small scandal about the amount of nudity on the set. When Westworld was forced to take a break it wasn’t all that surprising. Thandie Newton, who plays Maeve Millay, has opened up a bit about what it was like to shoot Westworld.
Thandie Newton spoke with The Guardian and comes off as fairly candid. She says the had to be naked 70% of the time, which, yes, is a lot. The good news is that she doesn’t resent the experience. In fact, she embraces it, saying “it was the first time I felt in control of my body at work.”

The interview is far-reaching and Westworld only plays a small part. It’s really a portrait of an actor forced to play the role of a sex object time and time again. Newton certainly does not paint a pretty picture of working as a woman in hollywood, though it is fortunate that Westworld had her feel some level on control.
You won’t find Thandie Newton badmouthing Westworld in any way. She instead considered the experience “a gift,” which is very much in line with how both Evan Rachel Wood and James Marsden have spoken about it in the last few months. With so many actors talking up the show, it’s difficult not to get caught up in it.

For those with even a passing interest in Thandie Newton or what it’s like to be a young, female actor, the full interview is absolutely worth your time. It’s not an easy read, but there’s no reason that it should be.
