Westworld Debuts new Promo and Poster
Westworld is still coming, in case you forgot
HBO is determined to promote Westworld up until the very last-minute, it seems. Considering that they have a potential mega-hit on their hands, that’s understandable. Today saw the release of not only a new trippy poster (seen above), but also a brand new promo. It’s only a 30 second spot, so don’t get too excited.

The promo is called “Maeve & Dolores,” and focuses on the relationship between the characters played by Evan Rachel Wood and Thandie Newton. We’ve seen Thandie Newton in Westworld material before but this is the most attention she has gotten so far. The setup is similar to old teasers that we’ve seen with Evan Rachel Wood’s character, Dolores, talking with Anthony Hopkins. The difference being that Newton seems to already be aware that the world she lives in is a sort of “dream.”
There’s also some western-style action here, with James Marsden manning a gatling gun and Evan Rachel Wood firing a pistol while riding a horse. Very western indeed. Ultimately the trailer is a little less cerebral than the ones we’ve seen before, but there’s nothing wrong with that. All of the now many teasers and trailers have carefully reused scenes and shots so we haven’t actually seen all that much, even though it feels like we have.
This is HBO’s last chance to heavily promote Westworld before the premiere, which will be on October 2nd. That’s this weekend, by the way. It’s been long in the making but the wait is finally almost over. Considering how many promos and trailers we’ve seen already, it wouldn’t be too farfetched to expect there to be one more before Sunday night.
Next: The Leftover Season 3 has wrapped
HBO is giving Westworld a bit of breathing room this weekend, as the rest of the new fall shows (Divorce and Insecure) won’t be com until the following week.
