High Maintenance Season 2 is Coming
High Maintenance season 2 is a sure thing
HBO’s newest foray into the realm of pot comedy, High Maintenance, served as a sort of foot in the water experiment. The only picked up the cult web series for six episodes, and then decided to air it on Friday late night. Well, something has surely paid off here, because HBO just announced that High Maintenance season 2 will be coming.
HBO announced the renewal in a hot off the presses PR blast. There are no other details to share, which makes sense since the first season hasn’t even finished airing yet. HBO’s Head of Programming, Casey Bloys, said that the episodes “exceeded all of our expectations,” so that’s good. The critical response has been fairly strong.

The press release doesn’t go into detail on the ratings so far, though it does mention that the first episode was a “top five” performer on digital platforms, while the second episode went up by 6%. HBO only mentions digital, which may mean that the actual television ratings aren’t all that high. That would be understandable considering the air time.
It’s not all that likely that HBO will order more episodes for High Maintenance season 2, though a push to eight instead of six wouldn’t be so bad. While High Maintenance has done well for HBO so far, it certainly isn’t a sure-fire hit. That does put its general longevity into doubt, but we’ll have to wait a while more to answer that question. The good news for now is that it will be back for a second season; we can worry about everything else later.

Consider all other aspects about season 2 “TBA.” The fact that it’s been doing well so far is good, and this early renewal notice is HBO throwing some more support its way.
