Frances and Robert attempt to fix their relationship in episode 3 of Divorce.

Even though Divorce wasn’t a hit right out of the park, it didn’t take too long for it to find its footing. The second episode, “The Next Day,” shifted some of the focus onto Frances’ husband, Robert, and the fallout of her cheating. Now that the series has actually begun, it looks like it’s time to try to pick up the pieces. A little bit, anyway.

The preview for the third episode of Divorce, titled “Couneling,” finds both Frances and Robert attempting to repair their relationship through, you guessed it, counseling.

Unfortunately there is actually little that we have’t seen already in this preview. It’s filled with scenes that have already been featured in the original trailers for the show, though they are part of what made Divorce so attractive in the first place. It appears that both parties are open, at least at this point, to some sort of reconciliation. But that doesn’t mean that Robert isn’t going to have some fun with it at Frances’ expense.

Both Francs and Robert already know that their relationship isn’t working, and we already know that Divorce isn’t going to end at marriage counseling. Still, there is something believable and maybe even comforting about a couple trying to work through their problems. Even if it’s not secret that it’s not going to take.

Next: William as The Man in Black? Probably not.

Thomas Haden Church as Robert has so far been Divorce’s greatest strength, embodying a bitter man whose life is falling apart around him. It also helps that he is given some of the show’s funniest, most biting lines. It’s safe to say that Divorce has now found its voice — let’s just hope that it can keep it for the rest of the season.
