Get Hype: HBO is Adapting the Cormoran Strike Novels
HBO has picked up Cormoran Strike, based on J. K. Rowling’s novels. The non-magic ones.
Over the years HBO has played host to some of the most memorable novel adaptations around, including an upcoming series based on Big Little Lies. Now, and for the second time, HBO will bring us an adaptation of a J. K. Rowling work, this one based on the Cormoran Strike series of mystery novels. You know, the ones she originally wrote under the assumed name of Robert Galbraith.

This is all according to a report from Deadline which also points out that this will not be a typical series. Cormoran Strike will be, for all intents and purposes, a British undertaking. The series is a production of BBC One and will be split into several, shorter event series that will cover the three books in the series. See the section on British Brevity for a more in-depth explanation, but expect the three series to only span a few hours each.
This will be the second J. K. Rowling adaptation to air on HBO — the first being The Casual Vacancy. Cormoran Strike will being filming in London soon, but don’t expect to see it before the middle of 2017. Rowling has an impressive number of projects in the pipeline, including the new film series Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. The Cormoran Strike novels are very popular, so expect HBO to go all out when it comes to promoting the series.
Watch a trailer for The Casual Vacancy:
Tom Burke will play the titular role and recently starred in the newest adaptations of The Musketeers and War & Peace. He was also in the tragically cut-short The Hour.
Next: Say no to a Westworld and Game of Thrones crossover.
Even though we still have half a season of Westworld to look forward to, it’s still exciting to get a taste of what HBO has in store for the future. And we can use a little more J. K. Rowling. Probably.
