HBO nabs Critics’ Choice Awards Nominations for Westworld and Others
HBO tops the list with 22 Critics’ Choice Awards nominations, including some for Westworld.
It’s safe to say that HBO is having a good year so far. Westworld has been a hit, both Divorce and Insecure are going strong, and we have new seasons of Veep and Silicon Valley to look forward to. Everything we’ve seen so far has been good to outstanding, and HBO is hoping to bring that energy to the Critics’ Choice Awards. Well, they’re going to have a nice leg up, since they have officially pulled in 22 nominations.
HBO’s normal roster of award-winners are present, including Silicon Valley, Veep, and Game of Thrones. But this time around they’re joined by Girls (usually snubbed,) and Westworld. Westworld is nominated for 4 awards:
- Thandie Newton for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series
- Evan Rachel Wood for Best Actress in a Drama Series
- Best Drama Series

That’s a nice, healthy start. This wouldn’t be awards news without HBO having to go up against itself, and it’s going to have to in several categories. Best Drama Series, for example, has Game of Thrones fighting Westworld. That’s going to be an interesting one to watch, especially since it’s a category that also contains Mr. Robot and Stranger Things. There isn’t gong to be an obvious winner. Veep is also going to have to tangle with Silicon Valley, a familiar fight that usually plays out in Veep’s favor.
Missing from the list is The Night Of, which unfortunately seems to have all but been forgotten. We’ll have to wait and see if next year’s Emmy’s remember it. HBO also has several movies nominated, including All the Way and Confirmation. All in all, HBO beats out every other network in terms of nominations.

It’s heartening to see some nominations for Westworld, signifying that it is ready to join the grown up’s party. This will likely be just the start when it comes to Westworld, though it’s going to have to fight tooth and nail to beat out Game of Thrones (at least for the next few years) in most cases.
