Insecure’s Natasha Rothwell is Getting her own HBO Series

Riding high off the success of Insecure, Natasha Rothwell secures her own place at HBO.

Insecure is one of several new HBO shows that have recently been renewed for a second season, and for good reason. HBO seems to be in a good place right now with its new offerings, and Insecure is just further proof of that. Issa Rae may be the start and creator, but this good news is all about Natasha Rothwell, who plays Kelli in a few episodes of the first season.

More from HBO

Rothwelll will apparently be getting a nice little promotion over at HBO — she will be a regular in season 2 and will also have her own show. Not too shabby. Her new series is set to be a comedy, but there is unfortunately no other information to report about it. She will write and star in it, but that was already a given. There is also no word on whether it will involve other creative talent from Insecure, but it’s entirely possible.

It’s obvious that HBO is ready to double down on what has made Insecure a success of far. Natasha Rothwell is also a writer on the show and will now take the reins of executive story editor. Between that and actually acting on the show, it’s difficult to see when she is actually going to have time to helm her own series. This could lead to her spending less time on Insecure or leaving it entirely.

Next: Girls will end in February.

Whatever ends up happening, it’s fantastic that she’ll be getting her own show. It’s also great that there will be more of Insecure in general, so for now it’s really a win-win. The new series is just in the planning stages, so it’s going to be a while until we learn more about it. That’s okay, as we’ll have more than enough to watch in the meantime.
