HBO Mourns the Passing of Carrie Fisher
HBO releases a statement on the untimely passing of Carrie Fisher
Between Christmas and New Year’s is usually a time of relative radio silence. It is, however, difficult to be silence in the face of tragedy. While we expect no new entertainment news from HBO until after the new year, we very much welcome their statement on the passing of Carrie Fisher. The news of her death has been everywhere for the past 24 hours or so, so it’s highly unlikely that this is the first place that you’ve heard about it.
Yesterday HBO quietly released a short press statement about Fisher. Here it is in full:
"“HBO is so saddened to lose Carrie Fisher much too soon. She was a great friend and a rare talent who left us so many lasting memories with her wonderful sense of humor and unique and honest perspective on life.”"

It’s not long by any stretch of the imagination, but that’s hardly important. While Fisher did not appear in any of HBO’s series, her stage play Wishful Drinking was recorded by HBO several years ago. You can watch that performance on either HBO Go or HBO Now, and we highly encourage you to do so today or sometime over the next few days.
Watch a trailer for Wishful Drinking:
Carrie Fisher is obviously best known for her role as Princess Leia in Star Wars, though that was only a fraction of what she achieved. She also became an advocate for mental health as well as a noted script doctor.
Next: Binge Veep instead of Game of Thrones.
The passing of Carrie Fisher at only 60 years old is a tragedy. So, again, gather a few friends or family members, and watch Star Wars. But also, and perhaps even more importantly, carve out some time to watch Wishful Drinking. You will not regret it.
