Game of Thrones: Will Daenerys Rule the Seven Kingdoms?

It’s time for Game of Thrones to wrap up, and that means there has to be a ruler on the iron throne. Should it be Daenerys?

The question of whether or not Daenerys will (or should) rule the Seven Kingdoms is something that has been pondered since the very first season of Game of Thrones. Back when the series was in its first couple of seasons, it was a question that was too difficult to really answer. There was too much we didn’t know, too much time left. That’s not the case anymore. Although we suspect plenty of surprises from the final two seasons, it isn’t too early anymore to really consider Dany’s prospects.

For much of the series, Dany symbolized a vague sort of threat. The leaders of Westeros were aware that she was over in Essos, but nobody really cared much. Even at this point she’s not considered a serious threat. Though they also don’t know that she is currently on her way, dragons in tow. Dany believes that it’s her right to rule the Seven Kingdoms, and frankly, there is such a huge mess right now that maybe her ruling would be the best thing for everybody. Certainly Westeros is not safe under Cersei.

Dany is in a great place right now. She has the element of the surprise, the combined forces of Essos and part of the Iron Islands, plus three dragons. Those are fairly good odds, but it’s not going to be that simple. Dany hasn’t seen the White Walker threat yet; nor has Cersei. What we, and many others suspect, is that the realm is going to have to team up in order to deal with the White Walkers first. It’s possible that whoever survives that will end up as rule. That’s a fight that you’re definitely going to want to bring dragon fire to.

Next: Bright Lights is coming in January.

At this late point in the series, Daenerys has a higher chance of winning than anyone else. If the theory about Jon Snow being a Targarean ends up being true, that would certainly be another plus in her column. But it’s not a straight shot; it never was. It’s just now more clear than before.
