Fear not, the First Teaser for The Leftovers Season 3 is Here
It’s going to be a rough time
Make no mistake, there is nothing easy about watching The Leftovers. That is likely why, or at least partially why, it never really caught on. Yes, it did win a Peabody, but it hasn’t managed to pull in much else. It took some time to get going, but it now stands as perhaps one of HBO’s finest dramas. And now it’s ending. HBO just released the first teaser trailer for the third and final season.

There’s not that much to talk about here outside of how horrible just about everyone looks. Haggard, tired, pushed to their limits. That goes double for Kevin Garvey Sr., the grandfather of the poor Garvey clan. The teaser features most of the main cast looking up at something, which appears to be sky-writing saying “The End is Near.” The teaser also reveals the premiere date, which will be April 16th.
This is the first season to be filmed in Australia, a move that showrunner Damon Lindelof explained as moving to “the end of the world” as well as trying to evoke Australian cinema. From what Lindelof has said, and is now backed up by this new teaser, there is no reason to believe that the final season is going differ greatly in tone from the previous two seasons. That is to say, if you found The Leftovers difficult to watch before, that isn’t going to change.
Next: Don't take The Young Pope too seriously.
Season 3 coming in April makes it a likely partner for Veep, a show that has usually been paired with Game of Thrones. That way Veep fans won’t miss out on their one-two comedy/drama punch. Veep will serve as a nice little palette cleanser, actually. It’s true that the fifth season of Veep hasn’t scheduled yet, but this is a fairly safe bet.
If you haven’t watched The Leftovers yet, there is plenty of time between now and April to catch up. Really, it’s worth it.
