HBO and BBC are Coming Together for Shibden Hall
A new period piece is coming in the form of a limited series
It usually make the news when something from Sky Atlantic or BBC makes their way here, and that goes double for when HBO is directly involved. HBO and BBC have worked together multiple times over the years, and we now have confirmation that their working relationship will continue. It’s perhaps worth pointing out that while The Young Pope does come from across the pond, it is a Sky Atlantic and Canal production.

Deadline is reporting that HBO and BBC will work together to bring Shibden Hall to life, a drama from Sally Wainwright. Wainwright has worked on many series for the BCC, including Happy Valley. Shibden Hall will be about Anne Lister, owner of the titular property in 1832, and her life as she seeks to transform her home and fate. Lister was famous for her diaries, in which she described being a wealthy landowner and lesbian.
The series will run for eight episodes and is being co-produced by HBO. There is no expected air date as of yet, though it won’t begin filming until next year, when it will film on location in Yorkshire, England. It’s going to be some time before HBO really stars to push Shibden Hall, but expect a rather large promotional push when the time comes.

Wainwright is a BAFTA winning writer, and hopes are high that this new project continues her impressive trend of high quality drama. Both HBO and BBC released statements on the new acquisition of the new project, stating how thrilled they are to work with Wainwright and how “bold” it is.
We’ll be keeping an eye on Shibden Hall as it develops.
