HBO is Bringing Escape Rooms to SXSW
Haven’t you always wanted to escape from the Oval Office?
There’s not getting around the fact that escape rooms are hot right now. The appeal is difficult to explain to someone who has never experienced it before, but basically a group of people (friends, ideally) enter a room and are “locked” in and under a time limit to complete a series of puzzles to get out. It’s weird. According to an interview with Time, John Legend and his wife, Chrissy Teigen, are obsessed with them. This thing goes deep.

HBO has decided to throw its hat in the ring and is bringing several different escape room experiences to SXSW (South by Southwest Festival) this year. Some of these make sense, like a Game of Thrones themed puzzle, while others are a bit more bizarre, like ones modeled after Veep and Silicon Valley.
The website set up for this unique experience, HBO The Escape, lays out the location and that the rooms will run from 3/11-3/13. There is also a place to reserve a time, which we highly suggest you do if you intend to take part in this. Escape rooms are usually done by appointment only, and these will probably be popular.

These are premium escape experiences, and it’s obvious how much work has gone into them. Sometimes escape rooms go on tour, so it’s possible that could happen here if these prove to be popular enough. At the very least HBO might choose to make the festival and convention rounds at some point.
