It all comes down to this. Will Rick kill Negan by the end of season 8, or will he imprison him in the jail cell built by Morgan? To be fair, the show has been known to go its down a separate path from the comic books, so don’t lean too heavily on the source material.

When Rick and Negan do have their ultimate showdown in “All Our War” in the comics, both men come out with devastating injuries, but both do live. Rick lures Negan into a false treaty and then cuts his throat, albeit superciliously. Negan then shatters Rick’s knee, before being captured. Negan then spends a long time in the jail cell.

Would the show go this route? Could the show afford to keep the talented Jeffrey Dean Morgan in a jail cell for an entire season (season 9)? I just don’t see it happening. Perhaps a few episodes, maybe. Or, perhaps, Rick might actually kill Negan. But I just can’t see sidelining a character like him on the show.

The Walking Dead season 7 definitely wasn’t it’s best, in terms of pacing and overall storyline. However, in my opinion, Jeffrey Dean Morgan provided some much-needed levity, and absolutely was the best villain this show has seen since its inception. Here’s hoping season 8 will be much, much better.
