Sean Spicer easily fits into the world of “Veep” in latest mashup video

Since the election, HBO’s Veep has felt more like a documentary compared to a satirical show on American politics.

During Tuesday’s press conference, press secretary Sean Spicer made an absurd comment about Adolf Hitler that led YouTube user, Dan Ketchum, to mash him up with the Veep end credits. He continued to dig himself into a deeper hole after a reporter asked him to clarify where he was unable to articulate the point he was trying to make. Sadly, the scene felt like it had been ripped out of a Veep end credits, especially because his fumbling with words is eerily similar to the character, Mike McLintock who plays the fictional press secretary to Selina Meyer.

While Spicer did (sort-of) walk back his comments by the end of the video, the damage was already done. Selina Meyer responds to his backtracking with a “blah blah blah blah,” which is what a lot of the internet has done as well.

This is similar to actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus’ actual viewpoint because she tweeted out her praise for the mashup earlier today. It isn’t surprising that Louis-Dreyfus would comment on the video when earlier this year she expressed her concern over the Veep‘s increasing relevance to the current political climate in her Emmy speech last year.

She wasn’t the only member of the cast to tweet out their support of the mashup with Matt Walsh (aka Mike McLintock) also shared the video on his Twitter.

Luckily for Spicer, and the administration, Veep showrunner, David Mandel, has confirmed that the show will not be taking direct shots at Trump or the people who work for him.

Unlucky for them, this is probably the first of many videos that will tie some of their more outlandish comments to the show in the upcoming years.
