Fargo turns in another stellar episode with “The Principle of Restricted Choice,” filled with plenty of WTF moments that left us both enthralled and scratching our heads.
Season 3 of Fargo kicked things off with a bang last week with not one but two murders by the end of the episode. In episode two, the sibling rivalry between Ray and Emmit ramped up, while Gloria began investigating the murder of her stepfather, and Emmit’s mysterious new business partner Varga moved in and took extra precautions to conceal his identity, resulting in yet another death.
Here are the five biggest WTF moments from “The Principle of Restricted Choice:”
5. The late Ennis Stussy was an award-winning science fiction writer
Not much was revealed about Ennis in the premiere other than that he owned a hardware store where he employed his step-grandson, who he sometimes took on camping trips. But after Gloria found his dead body while retrieving the forgotten gift Ennis had given her son for his birthday, she found a box filled with several pulp novels written by one Thaddeus Mobley, along with a newspaper excerpt where the author in question is seen receiving a Golden Planet award for his work, and an autographed photo of a glamorous woman.
Gloria surmises that Ennis used to go by the name Thaddeus Mobley, and therefore wrote all of the books hidden under his floorboards. It’s becoming clearer that her investigation into his murder at the hands of what’s suspected to be a junkie who was looking for cash from his store will include a thorough look into his past. How that connects to the broader story revolving around the Stussy brothers remains to be seen.
