American Gods Season 1, Episode 1 synopsis: “The Bone Orchard”
By Corey Smith
American Gods is poised to be the breakout hit of the summer, and here’s the synopsis of the premiere episode, set to air Sunday, April 30th.
American Gods, adapted from the award winning novel of the same name by Neil Gaiman, premiers this weekend on Starz. Thanks to IMDb, we have a synopsis for the first episode of the eight episode first season ominously titled “The Bone Orchard”.
That man, would be main series protagonist Shadow Moon, played by Ricky Whittle. Book readers will know that the “unexpected news” will be the death of his wife Laura Moon, depicted by Emily Browning. There’s no mention of Ian McShane’s Mr. Wednesday, but IMDb lists him as appearing in all eight episodes of the first season, so we are likely to at least see Shadow and Wednesday’s introduction this Sunday.
Show producers have noted that many characters from the book will have expanded roles on screen, especially some of the female characters like Laura Moon. That should prove interesting for book readers, as it will mean some characters are explored deeper on screen than their book counterparts.
If IMDb is correct, Bilquis will be one of the characters with expanded screen time, and we can confirm, that chapter from the book will appear in the first episode. You have been warned.
Take a look below at the synopsis, but beware of spoilers.
"A man, broken and alone, wishes only to survive his time in prison long enough to see his wife again. Although unexpected news releases him from prison early, it is hardly the news he wishes. Left feeling like he is looking at the world from the bottom of a well, he must literally walk the heroes’ path back to a time where he even resembles sanity."
American Gods should be able to capitalize on the hiatus of both The Walking Dead and Game of Thrones, despite being a bit more mystically centered than either of though shows. Even if American Gods proves to be half as popular as either of those shows, Starz would likely be very happy indeed.
