American Gods Season 1, Episode 2 synopsis “The Secret of Spoons”

American Gods debuted to rave reviews last week, but what does the follow-up have in store for viewers? Here’s the official synopsis from Starz.
American Gods is looking to carve out a large and loyal following for itself, and the debut episode “The Bone Orchard” certainly went a long way to accomplishing that. The second episode of the first season “The Secret of Spoons” airs this Sunday at 9 pm EST, and here is the official synopsis from Starz (as well as the video preview):
"As Mr. Wednesday begins recruitment for the coming battle, Shadow Moon travels with him to Chicago, and agrees to a very high stakes game of checkers with the old Slavic god, Czernobog."
So while we are still unclear as to who appeared to be rescuing Shadow Moon in last week’s episode, we certainly now have confirmation that Shadow survived the encounter with the Children and Tech-Boy. Shadow’s survival certainly appeared to be a foregone conclusion, but his hanging was a departure from the novel by Neil Gaiman on which the series is based.
It appears that this episode will also mark the beginning of Shadow and Mr. Wednesday’s cross country road trip, something that forms the backbone of the narrative from the novel. Perhaps even more exciting, viewers will be introduced to Czernobog. Czernobog, played by the epically diabolical Peter Stormare, is a book favorite, and should likely be the same for viewers.

Czernobog lives with the three Zoryas in the novel, so it’s likely we will be introduced to them as well as the American Gods road show makes a stop in Chicago. And hey, maybe we’ll find out what the secret of spoons is. We didn’t even know there was a secret to spoons.
