John Oliver will presumably cover the latest developments of “Stupid Watergate,” and the Alexandria shooting in this week’s episode of Last Week Tonight.

Like most late-night hosts these days, John Oliver has a steady stream of material thanks to the current administration, which he has to cram into the half-hour format of his HBO weekly show Last Week Tonight.

The British comedian still attempts to draw attention to international topics such as last week’s Brexit segment, but he inevitably devotes much of his time to respond to the latest controversy involving President Trump and the Russia investigation, which he’s dubbed “Stupid Watergate.”

The week began with Jeff Sessions’ evasive testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee, and culminated with reports circulating that special counsel Robert Mueller, tasked with investigating Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election, is looking into possible obstruction of justice by the president over his firing of former FBI director James Comey.

Trump seems to have confirmed the Washington Post story on Twitter Friday morning, tweeting his disapproval of what he calls a “witch hunt,” while taking a swipe at his own deputy attorney general, Rod Rosenstein.

Additionally, Trump formally announced the reversal of Obama’s Cuba policy and released a financial disclosure form where he reported $288 million in income in the past year. Sadly, the week was also marred by tragedy thanks to a shooting at a GOP baseball practice in Alexandria, Virginia ahead of a congressional charity game. Rep. Steve Scalise was shot along with two police officers, a congressional staffer, and a lobbyist. The gunman was killed at the scene by police after targeting the individuals due to their political affiliation.

Late-night hosts such as Stephen Colbert and Trevor Noah made brief statements about the shooting, but it’ll be interesting to see how much time Oliver devotes to the subject. The tragedy has prompted lawmakers as well figures like conservative musician Ted Nugent to reassess their use of divisive rhetoric in describing their political adversaries. But it remains to be seen how long the show of unity will last.
