2. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
In the eighth grade, a young girl named Kimmy gets kidnapped and forced to live in an underground bunker until she’s discovered fifteen years later. Sound like a dark premise? One could never tell with the extremely amusing sitcom based on Kimmy’s attempts to adapt to normal life.
Ellie Kemper brings tremendous amounts enthusiasm to the titular character who could have easily given up on life. The show hails from Tina Fey and Robert Carlock, the dynamic writing team behind 30 Rock. Trust those comedy veterans to bring to life a ludicrous sitcom like Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.
1. Master Of None
Only in its second season, Master Of None is led by former Parks & Rec actor, Aziz Ansari. He’s come a long way from his loud obnoxious character of Tom Haverford, and now plays the existential Dev, an actor trying to find work in New York.
The son of immigrants and an Indian shapes his life because a lot of the auditions he is overlooked because of his ethnicity. Master Of None infuses a deep story with comedy while also looking into the complicated love life of Dev.
