The truth is out there… on Twitter, to be specific, with David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson celebrating the reprisal of their roles as FBI Agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully as production begins on Season 11 of The X-Files.

Earlier this year, we learned that our favourite sci-fi investigators were suiting up to return to their basement office once more, as FOX ordered a new batch of X-Files episodes for the 2017-2018 television season.

Leading stars David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson punched in for the first time this week and teamed up to share a behind-the-scenes photo on the set of Season 11, which is currently in production.

Now, we know you have been told to trust no one, but our sources totally check out as the photo came directly from Anderson, who shared the shot on her Twitter page alongside a simple message, saying: “Well, it’s about time!”

See the tweet below:

The beaming actress appears in the foreground of the selfie, with her signature red locks flowing over her shoulders, as her unshaven co-star stands behind her, with a knowing look plastered across his face.

All secrets and spoilers are kept under wraps though, as the photo gives no further indication as to whether Mulder has made a full recovery from the ailments that plagued him at the end of the last season.

However, we want to believe that Mulder will be back on top form this season, especially considering the fact that the new event series will run for 10 episodes – which is four more than its predecessor.

The limited series sees Mitch Pileggi reprise his role as FBI Assistant Director Walter Skinner, fighting for the truth alongside Annabeth Gish as Monica Reyes. Robbie Amell and Lauren Ambrose will also return as Agents Miller and Einstein, though it remains unclear how many of the 10 episodes they will appear in.
