X-Files returned to television in 2016 for a six-part miniseries, with viewership reaching around 16 million.

More from Show Snob

The show first aired in 1993, and has maintained a high rating among users on IMDb, at 8.7. The premise of the show is simple:

"Two FBI agents, Fox Mulder the believer and Dana Scully the skeptic, investigate the strange and unexplained, while hidden forces work to impede their efforts."

The six-part miniseries left fans of X-Files with a huge cliffhanger with Sully’s decision to give Mulder the vaccine, or not, and then a random UFO happened.

X-Files‘ creator, Chris Carter said after that cliffhanger ending that the show would definitely be back. Well, looks like he was right.

The question now isn’t about the truth being out there, but if the show’s diehard fans will be able to tune-in every week in order to keep its ratings around the 12 to 16 million viewers mark.
