Scott Gimple promises Carol is back to her badass ways for The Walking Dead season 8

When The Walking Dead returns to AMC for its eighth season, Carol is going to be kicking ass and taking names according to showrunner Scott Gimple.

As part of its Fall TV Preview, TV Line interviewed The Walking Dead showrunner Scott M. Gimple and got some pretty interesting quotes from him. And, one of those quotes was regarding the return of Carol’s badass ways. But before that, Gimple remarks that season 8 is “very much about them fighting back.” Them being the survivors led by Rick Grimes.

One of those survivors — Carol — has been through hell and back to reach the point she’s at, and now it’s time for her to knock the rust off and get into the fight, and that’s what Gimple says she’s going to do in season 8.

"Her entire storyline has prepared her for this — she’s ready. The strength and bravery that she shows as a person this season, and the ingenuity that she employs… is very satisfying."

Carol has learned the art of being whatever or whomever she needs to be to survive, and that facade is something King Ezekiel saw right through when the two met in season 7. However, Gimple notes that the King is going to have a rough time acclimating to a world Carol is already used to.

"There are some intense times ahead for Ezekiel. Carol is not going to be surprised about the difficulty and brutality that they’re facing. Ezekiel is a little more new to this. The contrast [between the two] will be pretty stark."

Ezekiel and the members of The Kingdom have lived safely behind their walls, but now that their King has sided with Rick in the war against Negan and the Saviors, life as they know it is over.

Finally, Gimple confirms that we will see old man Rick in the season 8 premiere, but don’t expect any answers.

"We will not get the definitive answer as to what that’s about in the premiere. That won’t come until about halfway into the season."

That’s nothing new. We’ve come to expect to wait on reveals from The Walking Dead for quite some time now. Let’s not even get into the season 6 cliffhanger.
