One of the smartest superhero television shows to date is coming back very soon, as FX revealed the Legion Season 2 release date along with a new teaser for the series.

Legion tells the story of a mutant named David Haller (Dan Stevens), a man who believed he was clinically insane (schizophrenia) until he soon discovered that he is, in reality, one of the most powerful mutants alive and what he thought were delusions were all too real. The series, created by Noah Hawley (Fargo, Bones), ended up as the smartest and mind-trippy series to hit television in a long time.

Deadline reported that the Legion Season 2 release date is much closer than anticipated, with the new season starting on Tuesday night, April 3, at 10 p.m. EST. There was also a new teaser released this last week.

The teaser included a ton of shows coming to FX in 2018, and there were shots from Legion included. Here is the original trailer, which checks in at just over two minutes.

There were only six seconds of material when it came time to showcase Legion, and you can see those five seconds here.

In this teaser, you see David trapped in the sphere that he ended up in at the end of Season 1. We also see him back with his friends, meaning that he will (obviously) get out and they will go back to war with the Shadow King, which will likely be played by two different people this season. Audrey Plaza, who was the Shadow King in Season 1, posted the following image on Instagram to tease fans as well.

What will happen in Legion Season 2 is unknown, and for a show like this, it is always better to go into the season without knowing what is going to happen and let the series surprise you. However, in the comic books, Legion’s father is … Professor X. In an appearance on James Corden’s show in 2017, actor Dan Stevens asked Patrick Stewart if he would appear on the show as his dad and Stewart said he would.

The chances of that are unlikely, but Legion Season 2 will be back in April to continue the story of Marvel’s strangest mutant.
