Ryan Murphy is taking his talents to Netflix
And just when we thought Netflix couldn’t get any bigger, it announces that producer/writer Ryan Murphy is officially joining the streaming service later this year. Murphy is known for being the creative mind behind Glee, American Horror Story, and American Crime Story — just to name a few. According to New York Times, Murphy has reportedly signed on for a five-year, $300 million deal with Netflix. This switch comes on the heels of Murphy’s contract with 20th Century Fox ending, for whom he made content for on FX and Fox.
Murphy is not the first big-name producer to leave their home network behind. Showrunner Shonda Rhimes announced in August that she too would be making the move to Netflix from ABC. Looks like Rhimes was looking to expand beyond the world of her infamous triple threat TGIT lineup, right?
Netflix’s Chief Content Officer, Ted Sarandos, conveyed his excitement for bringing Murphy into the Netflix family and his enthusiasm for the diversity of his work.
"“Ryan Murphy’s series have influenced the global cultural zeitgeist, reinvented genres, and changed the course of television history. We’ve seen how his brand of storytelling captivates consumers and critics across the globe. His celebrated body of work and his contributions to our industry speak for themselves, and we look forward to supporting Ryan in bringing his broad and diverse stories to the world.”"

Murphy’s deal with Netflix will commence on July 1st after his contract with 20th Century Fox expires. His move to Netflix comes at an interesting time in the midst of Disney’s deal to buy out Fox. However, Murphy previously stated his concerns over his work potentially being a part of Disney company. Looks like he made his decision, right?
"“The history of this moment is not lost on me. I am a gay kid from Indiana who moved to Hollywood in 1989 with $55 dollars in savings in my pocket, so the fact that my dreams have crystallized and come true in such a major way is emotional and overwhelming to me.”"
