Brand-new Cobra Kai trailer shows how Johnny trains a protege
By Shawn Lealos
A new Cobra Kai trailer is out, letting fans know a little about what to expect from the Karate Kid sequel YouTube Red series.
For fans who missed the first Cobra Kai trailer, check it out at this link on Show Snob. That trailer promised that some rivalries never end and had a voice-over by Johnny (William Zabka) and Daniel-san (Ralph Macchio) as they talked about Johnny bringing back Cobra Kai and then the two standing face-to-face.
Now, there is a second trailer out for the Cobra Kai YouTube Red series that will hit later this year. There is no sign at all of Daniel-san in this trailer, but there is a look at Johnny and his new protege — a bullied young boy.
Check out the second Cobra Kai trailer here:
It is a complete turn of events from the original Karate Kid movie. Of course, in that original movie, Daniel-san was the bullied kid in school, and Mr. Miyagi took him in and trained him. In this movie — while the trailer did not show it — Johnny takes in the bullied child to help train and mentor.
The story takes place 30 years after the1984 All Valley Karate Tournament where Daniel stood up to Johnny and won. Now, 30 years later, Johnny has a broken family and a son who wants to be nothing like his dad while Daniel has a family and works as a car salesman.

However, things are not well for Daniel either, as he is trying to maintain balance without his beloved mentor Mr. Miyagi.
When Johnny meets a young boy who is bullied, he takes him in and trains him the only way he knows how – no fear, strike first, strike hard, no mercy. This trailer also shows that Johnny trains nothing like Mr. Miyagi, as when his protege asks if there is any special way he wants him to wash the window, Johnny replies “I don’t give a s***.”

Daniel is not in this video, but Cobra Kai is reported to be about the two men facing past demons and current frustrations in life. Cobra Kai premieres this year on YouTube Red.
