4. Stargate Atlantis – Oberoth

David Ogden Stiers was only on three episodes of Stargate Atlantis, but he made a great impression in his role as the High Councilor of Asuras, Oberoth. As he perfected over his career, Stiers played a man oozing arrogance and showed that disdain for Lt. Colonel John Sheppard and his team when they arrived on Asuras. His first appearance saw him try to destroy Atlantis (“Progeny’), only to die.

However, you can’t keep Stiers down, and he returned in “First Strike” when it was learned that his consciousness survived and he set out for vengeance against Sheppard and Atlantis. It was here that he created the Hybrid, but once again failed to destroy his enemies in Atlantis.

3. The Dead Zone – Reverend Gene Purdy

While Michael Moriarty portrayed the role of Reverend Purdy in the pilot episode of Stephen King’s Dead Zone TV series, David Ogden Stiers stepped into the role when the show went to air, and he completely owned the role. Dead Zone is about a man named Johnny Smith (Anthony Michael Hall) who comes out of a coma and learns that he can touch someone and see parts of the past and future.

While the show deals with the possible apocalypse that will come if Greg Stillson becomes President of the United States, many subplots helped the show remain on the air for six seasons. Purdy was the man who managed the trust fund of Johnny while he was in a coma and runs the Faith Heritage Alliance — which endorsed Stillson as he ran for Congress, putting him in a tough spot with Johnny.
