The Boys is quickly shaping up to be one of the more interesting series from Amazon this year.

Adapted from the popular Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson comic, the show follows a group of vigilantes known as “the boys.” Two actors have boarded the series to join the titular team in their pursuit of justice.

Jack Quaid, son of actor Dennis Quaid, has signed onto to play Hughie in the new series. His character is approached to join the team after watching his girlfriend die by the hero A-Train (Jesse Usher).

Mainly known as the “everyman” in the series, he pursues a relationship with Starlight (Erin Moriarty). Unlike some of the other characters, the two struggle with the violent world they live in.

He’s joined by Laz Alonso, who’s playing the character Mother’s Milk. Considered second-in-command of the team, he’s a cool-headed detective within the group. However, it’s revealed he has superhuman strength on top of his investigative skills. Going up against a team of corrupt superheroes is going to challenge his intellect like never before.

Creator of Timeless, Eric Kripke, is tasked with writing the pilot with Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg tasked with directing it. The latter two are responsible for bringing Ennis’ other comic, Preacher to life a few years ago. By now, the two have a pretty good understanding of the tone Ennis is trying to achieve in his writing.

Ordered straight to series, The Boys is expected to begin filming this spring and air sometime in 2019. The remaining members of the team have yet to be cast, although the superheroes have been.

The eight-episode season will be unlike any other superhero show currently airing. Fans of the genre should prepare themselves for an extremely graphic albeit interesting story.
