It doesn’t look like there are any immediate plans for The Defenders season two
The Defenders was met with mixed critical reviews but the series was still a massive hit.
It’s remained unclear whether the show would get another season but fans have finally gotten their answer. Krysten Ritter revealed the fate of the superhero team-up in a recent interview for Jessica Jones. Sadly, it’s not the answer that most fans were hoping for.
When asked by Vulture about the response to The Defenders, Ritter mentioned the show isn’t expected to return.
"Y’know, I had a great time doing The Defenders and honestly, it was such a good experience that I would even do it again. I don’t think we are doing it again. It was never intentioned to do it again, but, you know, if I was given another opportunity, I would."
As disappointing as it is to know a second season isn’t currently in the works, it doesn’t mean it would never happen. Netflix has notoriously spaced out their Marvel series so they air every couple of years. It took Jessica Jones three years just to have a sophomore run which leaves plenty of time for The Defenders.
For now, Krysten Ritter isn’t dwelling on the future of the mini-series. Her series returns March 8 and critical reviews have already been positive. The Defenders is definitely an event series made for fans compared to the social relevance of Jessica Jones.
"My heart is with my show because of the subject matter and because of the great drama that we get to do and the personal issues that we explore. For me, that is more the type of content that I enjoy as a viewer and as a performer. My heart is in Jessica Jones, but I did have a great time doing The Defenders with the guys. We had a good time. It is what it is."

The best part of the show was the interactions between the characters which can be achieved without another season. Hopefully, if Netflix does choose not to move forward with another team-up, they’ll allow more crossovers between the shows. In the meantime, viewers can catch Jessica back on the silver screen tomorrow and Luke Cage this summer.
