Norm Macdonald Netflix series officially announced

Norm Macdonald hinted in February during a Reddit AMA that he was in the process of getting a Netflix series, and that has now become official.

Humorously, Norm Macdonald was on the David Letterman Show during one of the former late night talk show hosts final appearances and said that there were too many talk shows at night time. With that said, Macdonald is adding to the number, albeit on Netflix.

Letterman, who has always praised the comedy of Norm Macdonald, will work as a “creative partner” on the series, and the fact that Letterman himself has his own Netflix talk show (his first guest was President Barack Obama) is possibly how Norm got his foot in the door.

The new talk show — titled Norm Macdonald Has a Show — will feature Norm and his sidekick Adam Eget. The two worked on his podcast Norm Macdonald Live, which he admitted in his Reddit AMA was an attempt to prove he could do a talk show.

"I did my podcast in order to see if I could host a talk show. And I think I succeeded and have now been offered a talk show by Netflix. All the podcasts were rehearsals."

Macdonald said that the podcast is what attracted the attention of Netflix. Of course, this isn’t Macdonald’s first shot at something like this.

After leaving Saturday Night Live (where he was arguably the best Weekend Update anchor in the show’s history), he had an ABC series called The Norm Show for three years, had a sketch comedy show he attempted for Comedy Central and hosted Sports Show with Norm Macdonald for the network after that, although they canceled it after nine episodes.

Macdonald has a chance to beat that on Netflix, as the streaming giant has ordered 10 episodes of Norm Macdonald Has a Show. The description of the series states that Macdonald will interview one celebrity guest per episode and it will also go behind-the-scenes into “Norm’s world.”
