Annabella Sciorra joins season 2 of Luke Cage as a new villain

More trouble is heading to Harlem in Luke Cage this season.

Entertainment Weekly reported that Sopranos actress, Annabella Sciorra, has joined the cast as a new villain in New York. She’ll be another problem for Luke to handle in season two with the underworld growing stronger. As Cottonmouth learned last season, ambition can be one’s downfall when trying to take over Harlem.

Sciorra will be playing Rosalie Carbone, who’s described as ” a dangerous downtown criminal underworld power player with an eye — and an agenda — aimed at Harlem.”

With Shades and Mariah both returning, it looks like Harlem could become a war zone. It’s a good thing Luke is unbreakable because bullets are bound to fly in a gang fight.

The showrunner of Luke Cage, Cheo Hodari Coker, had nothing but praise for the esteemed actress.

"“I’ve been a huge fan of hers since Spike Lee’s Jungle Fever, and Anabella Sciorra is no joke as Rosalie Carbone. You haven’t seen her this gangster since her thrilling turn as Tony’s formidable flame Gloria Trillo on season 3 of The Sopranos. I’m thrilled her introduction to the Marvel Universe will be on Marvel’s Luke Cage.”"

Netflix and Marvel are used to critically acclaimed actors joining their ranks. Luke Cage needed a charismatic actress to fill the void Cottonmouth left last season.

The Netflix series has had notorious problems crafting compelling season-long villains (with the exception of Kilgrave). Marvel Head of TV, Jeph Loeb, is confident that Sciorra’s character is going to impress fans.

The upcoming season of Luke Cage doesn’t hit Netflix until June 22, but it’s supposed to be darker than last year. Mike Colter also confirmed there would be more fighting, and Sciorra’s addition definitely supports that.

In fact, Luke might need to call in some help from Misty Knight and Danny Rand in order to take down the criminals in Harlem.
