Requiem for a nightmare: New to Netflix
By Ruby LeRouge
Netflix’s newest show Requiem is a haunted tale that’s all about the ambiance.
Requiem is an occult mystery tying a young star cellist to the suicide of her mother and the disappearance of a young girl in a small Welsh town 23 years earlier.
Our heroine, Matilda Gray (played by Star Trek Beyond’s Lydia Wilson), goes from a solid musical career path in London to questioning everything she knows about her life and herself in a blink of an eye. More so, this rabbit hole she falls down has her questioning what’s real and what’s not, right along with the watcher.
A haunted house, a town full of secrets, Requiem has a lot of the elements for the proper British mystery fan, with some compelling twists and turns along the way.
This isn’t your typical ghost story though, and definitely doesn’t have the typical end you might expect from a British mystery, but the distrusting townsfolk and slow build element is definitely there.
Without giving too much away, this binge-watcher was pleasantly surprised by the conclusion. The finale does leave some interesting questions, but it does seem to be a closed story.
If there was a second season for Requiem, answering them could be a lot of fun, and turn it into an entirely different genre of show. Any chance for a spin-off, dear writers?

Well, even if it’s only a one season series, there is a proper horror flick ending that ties it all up, and deserves a watch. Requiem earns a solid 4 out of 5 on my binge-watching scale.
