The synths of Humans are finally making their long-awaited return back to AMC.

Humans has been one of the most underrated shows to tackle artificial intelligence. Continuously well-received by critics, the series has built up a loyal and passionate fan base.

After almost a year of radio silence, the network has finally settled on a premiere date for the third season of Humans.

According to Deadline, Humans season 3 is expected to air on June 5, with the eight episodes taking the 10 p.m. time slot. Humans picks up from a massive cliffhanger that saw synths finally gain consciousness. Season three is expected to deal with the consequences in this new world order.

"One year after the dawn of consciousness, a decimated and oppressed Synth population fights to survive in a world that hates and fears them. In a divided Britain, Synths and humans struggle to broker an uneasy peace, but when fractures within the Synth community start to appear, all hope of stability is threatened. Set against the maelstrom of political chaos, the ethical complexities of the dawn of a new species play out across a thrilling multi-stranded narrative. As the Synth family, Mia (Gemma Chan), Niska (Emily Berrington) and Max (Ivanno Jeremiah) continue to battle for their right to survival, Joe (Tom Goodman-Hill), Laura (Katherine Parkinson) and their children Mattie (Lucy Carless), Toby (Theo Stevenson) and Sophie (Pixie Davies) struggle to come to terms with the cataclysmic events of last season."

Based on the longline, it looks like the series will be dealing with more complex issues this year. Last year the show tried to tackle what the legal rights are for a synthetic.

Now that all of them can think freely, should they be treated as human beings? If the synths are “decimated and oppressed” it definitely doesn’t seem like the majority of the population think so.

In a world where synths and humans are at war, there’s only one man who will suffer being despised by both. Leo has long identified as the former, but it is thrown in his face how human he actually is. While he’s finally gotten his wish for all synths to actually be conscious, his actions will probably haunt him for the rest of this season.

The Hawkins family has been the audience surrogate from the beginning of Humans but they can’t stand on the sidelines anymore. For a while, they have escaped any real legal trouble but things might be heating up for them now.

Mattie was ultimately the one responsible for creating the consciousness code as well as executing it, making her a pretty big target. How far will the Hawkins go to help the synths with their daughter’s life on the line?

Hopefully, all questions will be answered in the eight-episode, third season of the series. Humans premieres on June 5 at 10 p.m. on AMC in the United States and Channel 4 in the UK.
