Archer: Danger Island trailer goes completely pulp

At one time, Archer was a great spoof of spy movies with raunchy and quite brilliant satire.
However, at the end of season 7, Sterling Archer ended up in a coma and then — well, things went completely off the rails. Instead of the spy satire, the series created an eighth season that was almost a completely different genre and show — all while maintaining the great characters fans grew to love and hate.
With Archer: Dreamland, season 8 went back in time to 1947 and re-imagined all the characters in a Noir storyline — all taking place in the comatose dreams of Sterling Archer. Now, the ninth season is Archer: Danger Island and the timeframe is now 1939 in the South Pacific.
With that said, here is the Archer: Danger Island trailer (which is quite brilliant). Check it out and then let us chat a bit about the season.
Once again, the story takes place in the comatose dreams of Sterling Archer. With creator Adam Reed saying that season 10 will be the end of the show, it seems like next season will finally see Archer wake up — or will he?
Ponder that for a second.
Now, back to Archer: Danger Island. In season 9, the characters are re-imagined with Sterling Archer now a seaplane pilot in 1939, and while he is no longer a spy or private eye (as he was in season 8), he still loves his alcohol and women. World War II is on the horizon, but Archer is just interested in getting his next drink paid for.
Pam is now his hulking co-pilot, his mom Malory is the hotel owner where he lives, Lana is now Princess Lanaluakalani, Cheryl is Charlotte, an abandoned heiress who seems completely freaked out by a talking parrot (Dr. Krieger), Cyril is Siegbert, a German spy, and Ray is French Capitaine Reynaud.

The good news is that co-creator Matt Thompson said that season 9 would get back to just having fun (season 8 was great — but very dark), and the trailer shows that. There will be quicksand, intelligent monkeys, cannibals, pirates and a volcano.
Did we mention that Dr. Krieger is a talking parrot?
Archer: Danger Island premieres on FXX on April 25 at 10 p.m. EST.
