Peaky Blinders is continuing its meteoric rise in popularity with a season 6 and 7 are in the works.

Big news for fans of BBC’s crime drama Peaky Blinders. Creator Steven Knight announced that the show will see a season 6 and possibly a season 7.

This is certainly welcoming news, as Season 5 was initially going to wrap up the story of the Shelby family. The show has gained more and more popularity as of late, its most recent Season 4 scoring as the highest-rated show on BBC Two. There’s definitely potential to make it grow even greater.

More from Netflix

Knight confirmed to the Birmingham Press that lead actor Cillian Murphy, who plays Tommy Shelby, head of the crime family, was open to returning beyond Season 5 as long as the shows writing remained as consistently strong as it has in the past.

"“We’ve talked to [lead actor] Cillian Murphy and he’s all for it, and the rest of the principal cast are in for it.”"

As long as Murphy remains up for it, seasons 6 and 7 will certainly be worth the wait.

The Shelby’s have gone up against (and defeated) some formidable foes. This includes former rival Billy Kimber’s gang The Birmingham Boys, The Economic League,  and Luca Changretta’s Italian-American mafia.

Season 4 closed with Tommy gaining more power than ever as he became a Labour Member of Parliament. Where will the show go from here? Well, Tommy’s now aligned with perhaps the most famous mobster in history, Al Capone. Maybe that alliance will go south? There’s always someone out there who will have issues with the Shelby’s.

It’s all up for speculation at this point.

Extending the show for at least another two seasons is not the only major news Knight broke to the Birmingham Press, as Peaky Blinders is going beyond just the television screen– in the form of a ballet!

Reported by Deadline, the Rambert dance company and Knight had discussed the idea of moving the hit-drama to the stage. “I don’t know where they would do it, but there was a view to premiering it here in Birmingham,” said Knight.

Desiring to promote the city of Birmingham, Knight was onboard with the idea from the get-go.

So now we have a Season 5 (already in the works), a confirmed Season 6, a strong possibility of a Season 7, and the beginnings of the Peaky Blinders ballet. As long as the show continues its success, who knows how far it can go.

Season 5 will be arriving at BBC in 2019 (and Netflix shortly after). By order of the Peaky Blinders, we’ll all just to have anxiously wait until then.
