Bohemian Rhapsody trailer starring Mr. Robot actor Rami Malek hits online
By Shawn Lealos
A brand-new movie about the life and career of legendary Queen singer Freddie Mercury is coming out and the first official trailer just hit.
Originally, the movie was set to star Sacha Baron Cohen (Da Ali G Show) but he pulled out and the new star is none other than Mr. Robot star Rami Malek, who will portray Mercury in the movie.
Malek has been acting professionally but it wasn’t until Mr. Robot that he became a critically acclaimed star. He is now a two-time Golden Globe-nominated actor for her portrayal of Elliot Alderson, an engineer with clinical depression and who often loses himself to his alternate personality — the spirit of his dead father (Christian Slater).
Malek also won a Primetime Emmy Award for the role in 2015 and is also a two-time Screen Actors Guild nominee in 2016 and 2017 as well. He now looks to bring that talent into the story of Freddie Mercury’s life.
Directed by Dexter Fletcher, who replaced Bryan Singer after the production fired the X-Men director, the movie looks to be a celebration of the music of Queen and the trailer is full of partial beats from the band’s most famous songs.
While the trailer makes Bohemian Rhapsody look like a lot of fun, Singer has criticized the film. According to the former director, the entire movie will ignore Freddie Mercury’s battle with AIDS that led to his early death.
Joining Rami Malek in the cast are Ben Hardy (X-Men: The Last Stand) as drummer Roger Taylor, Gwilym Lee (The Tourist) as guitarist Brian May and Joseph Mazzello (The Social Network) as bassist John Deacon.
