City On A Hill, a new project from Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, is in the works at Showtime.

Showtime has ordered a 12-episode scripted series titled City on the Hill, which is set to air in 2019 on Showtime.  Kevin Bacon will star in the series and it will be produced by Ben Affleck and Matt Damon.

Deadline reports that the series is pitched as a legal drama set in Boston in the early ’90s. Bacon will play a corrupt FBI Agent who works with an assistant district attorney played by Aldis Hodge (Underground).

In the process, Bacon’s character ends up putting Boston’s entire justice system under the microscope.

The plot centers on the legal efforts to clean up the city of Boston’s corruption laden image. It reminds one of some other Boston-based crime dramas, such as Martin Scorsese’s superb The Departed.

That film featured Matt Damon alongside Jack Nicholson, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Martin Sheen. Like The Departed, City On A Hill  shows how that corruption affects those who work with or within corrupted institutions.

What sticks out about this project is that it has brought Matt Damon and Ben Affleck back together after what seems like a long time. In recent years, Damon and Affleck have mostly worked separately on various films.

Their biggest success together is the 1997 film Good Will Hunting. The film won Damon and Affleck the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay. The film also won Robin Williams an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor.

City On A Hill is set to take place around the time period in Boston when both actors were working on Good Will Hunting.
