A new HBO series is coming to town – the drama series Euphoria will be coming to a small screen near you. Former Disney Channel star, Zendaya (The Greatest Showman), will star in the series as Rue, a lying, drug-addicted 17-year-old girl.
Also starring in the series will be Storm Reid (A Wrinkle in Time) as Gia, Maude Apatow (This is 40 and a bunch of other movies by her father, Judd Apatow) as Lexi, rapper Brian “Astro” Bradley as McKay, and McDreamy himself, Eric Dane (Grey’s Anatomy) as Cal.

According to Deadline, Euphoria is the story of drugs, sex, love, trauma, social media, friendship, and identity as told by Rue. Sam Levinson, who wrote the HBO movie, The Wizard of Lies, will write the pilot of the series.
Euphoria will be based on the Israeli 2012-2013 series of the same name. The same showrunners of the Israeli series, Ron Leshem, Daphna Levin and Tamira Yardeni, will serve as executive producers of the HBO series. The original series took place in the 1990s, but it is unknown whether or not this series will take the same road.
With such a young cast, this may be HBO’s first dive into a young adult genre. Although, the themes of the show seem to be more adult than anything else. But with the success of 13 Reasons Why, maybe HBO has finally realized they need something for this particular demographic.
