The new limited series, Unbelievable, will also star Merritt Wever and Kaitlyn Dever.

Netflix is bringing a limited series called Unbelievable to a small screen near you.

Toni Collette (United States of Tara), Merritt Wever (Nurse Jackie), and Kaitlyn Dever (Last Man Standing) will star. Erin Brockovich writer Susannah Grant will write, and Lisa Cholodenko (The Kids Are All Right) will direct the eight-episode show.

Netflix will base the new series on the December 2015 article, “An Unbelievable Story of Rape,” by T. Christian Miller and Ken Armstrong and the “This American Life” radio episode “Anatomy of Doubt.” The article appeared on The Marshall Project and won a Pulitzer Prize.

More from Netflix

Unbelievable is the true story of Marie, a teenager who lied about her rape, and the two detectives who figured it all out. Collette and Wever will play the detectives. Netflix didn’t reveal who Dever will play, but I’m guessing she will play Marie.

It sounds like it could be an interesting series will potential for award buzz.

Collette received a Best Supporting Actress nomination for The Sixth Sense and Emmy nominations for her work in the United States of Tara and Tsunami: The Aftermath.

Wever won a Best Supporting Actress Emmy for her work in Nurse Jackie. She currently stars on the Netflix series Godless. She also had a recurring role on The Walking Dead.

Dever, who last played Tim Allen’s youngest daughter on Last Man Standing, will next appear in The Front Runner with Hugh Jackman. There are rumors that Last Man Standing is getting a reboot, but a limited series filming schedule shouldn’t affect her appearance on that show if the stories are real.
