Netflix orders martial arts drama Wu Assassins starring The Raid actor
By Shawn Lealos
Anyone who watches AMC has seen the amazing martial arts epic Into the Badlands starring Danny Wu.
That TV show has some amazing choreographed battles and is set in a fantastical world. Now, it sounds like Netflix wants in on the act as well.
Deadline reports that the streaming giant has ordered the martial arts drama Wu Assassins with Iko Uwais in the lead role. Fans of martial arts movies know Uwais for his role in both The Raid and its sequel — the first movie being one of the best martial arts flicks in years.

Not only do they have a great martial arts actor in the lead role, but the Netflix original series will also have a supernatural aspect involved — making it even more similar to Into the Badlands.
Wu Assassins stars Uwais as Kai Jin, a man who is the “latest and last Wu Assassin.” The plot synopsis reveals that he is tasked with rounding up the “powers of an ancient triad and restore balance once again.”
Byron Mann, who starred in Altered Carbon, co-stars in Wu Assassins as a character called Uncle Six.
Tony Krantz (24) and John Wirth (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles) are the producers on the series. Uwais will not only star in the lead role but will also be the fight choreographer — and anyone who has seen The Raid knows that is very exciting.

Uwais was the fight choreographer on both Raid movies. He will also appear in the Mark Wahlberg/Ronda Rousey movie Mile 22 later this year — a film that also stars Walking Dead’s Lauren Cohan.
