FX has given the go-ahead to a limited series based on the romance and creative achievements of Bob Fosse and Gwen Verdon.

Deadline reports that the still-untitled FX show has an all-star line-up in front of and behind the camera. Sam Rockwell, an Oscar winner for Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, and Michelle Williams, a four-time Oscar nominee, will star. Broadway veterans Lin-Manuel Miranda, who wrote and starred in Hamilton , Thomas Kail, who directed Hamilton, and Steven Levenson, who wrote Dear Evan Hanson, created the project.

All five will executive produce along with George Stelzner. In addition, Levenson will serve as showrunner and writer for the series’ first episode, which Kail will direct. The choreographer for the project will be Andy Blankenbuehler, who will also be a co-producer.

Of the project, Kail, Levenson, and Miranda said,

"Bob Fosse ignited a revolution in American dance, theater, and film. But, in contrast to the well-worn myth of the visionary artist working in solitude, Fosse’s work would not have been possible without Gwen Verdon, the woman who helped to mold his style – and make him a star."

The show is based on the biography Fosse by Sam Wasson. The series will delve into Fosse and Verdon’s partnership and their singular creative achievements — Fosse as a choreographer and theater and film director, Verdon as a renowned Broadway dancer. The series will feature Fosse’s singular choreography. It will turn a critical eye on show business and the sacrifices made in the name of art.

The series will also be co-executive produced by the couple’s only daughter, Nicole Fosse, an actress, dancer, and producer, who also supervises The Verdon Fosse Legacy.

Of the project Fosse said,

"My mother and father have one of the greatest love stories ever known. They were extremely complex people with an indestructible bond, loyalty, and trust that endured both fantasy and reality. Finally, we have a creative team with the talent and wisdom to tell the story."

The series will start filming this fall and will premiere sometime in 2019.

With the amount of Tony and Oscar-winning talent involved in the project, as well as the potential interest this little-known story could generate, the show could draw a large audience and make for compelling TV.
