Timeless‘s Abigail Spencer is heading back to TV!

Spencer will star in the pilot for the Hulu drama, Reprisal, Deadline reports. The project is being shepherded by Warren Littlefield (The Handmaid’s Tale, Fargo) from The Littlefield Company and A+E Studios.

It will be written by Josh Corbin (StartUp) and directed by BAFTA nominee Jonathan Van Tilleken (Trust, Gap Year).

The plot of the show centers on a femme fatale out for revenge. After being left for dead by a gang of gearheads that includes her brother, Spencer’s character Katherine Harlow has remade herself as the seductive Doris Dearie.

After several years of peace, she gets sucked back into her past when she learns she must rescue her niece from the gang that tried to kill her. Along the way, she decides to get her revenge any which way she can.

Littlefield and Barry Jossen from A+E Studios executive produce, while Corbin and others serve as co-executive producers.

Abigail Spencer is best known to sci-fi and fantasy fans for her starring role as Lucy Preston on the NBC series Timeless. After a two-season run, she’ll be reprising the role in a wrap-up movie that will be broadcast over the holidays.

She also briefly appeared on Grey’s Anatomy in an important recurring role as Dr. Owen Hunt’s long-lost sister.

Reprisal sounds like quite a departure from those two characters. However, Spencer has a long filmography that includes a diverse array of roles from a variety of genres.

There is no guarantee Reprisal will be picked up to series by Hulu but the premise sounds interesting, and the hyper-kinetic style in which it will reportedly be presented could make it a tour-de-force.
