Timeless fans strike again! NBC has ordered a two-part finale for the beloved series.

While Timeless may never have been the ratings hit NBC hoped for, there’s no denying how passionate its fanbase is. After getting canceled for the second time, another large fan campaign began to try and find the series another home. While Sony confirmed these talks had failed, NBC has officially decided to order a two-part wrap-up to serve as an ending for the show.

Spoilers ahead!

Like season one, the second season ended with another massive cliffhanger. Specifically, fan favorite Rufus died in the past leaving the Time Team broken. Jiya felt guilty and responsible because he had come back for her while Wyatt finally realized how much destruction he caused by letting Jessica into their lives. Things had definitely hit rock bottom, which is saying a lot considering the team had been living in an underground bunker.

Nevertheless, a future version of Wyatt and Lucy dropped by in their updated Lifeboat with a plan to save Rufus. This opened up a whole new can of worms fans were hoping to get answers for. What had the two gone through to become these badass soldiers? Where are Flynn and Jiya? What has Rittenhouse done in their timeline?

Luckily, NBC seems to have the same questions because they had announced earlier this summer their desire to have a movie wrap-up. While many figured this was just a way to appease fans’ initial heartbreak, the network has put their money where their mouth is.

Co-creators and executive producers, Shawn Ryan and Eric Kripke, released a joint statement expressing their joy over the news too.

"“While we wish we could’ve made another dozen seasons of Timeless, this is the next best thing. We’re thrilled to take the lifeboat out for one last spin and bring closure to our story. The studio, network, cast and crew are all doing this for one reason only: the fans. Because they deserve it. Because the fans made this happen and we thank them for their passion, support and helicopters. So? You guys want to get Rufus back or what?”"

Next. Timeless deserves to be renewed for another season and here’s why. dark

There’s no official news yet about when the finale will air but NBC confirms it will be sometime during the winter holidays. Considering this gives the writing team a very short amount of time to write up a satisfactory conclusion as well as film, more details will probably be released soon. In the meantime, the Clockblockers will be waiting with bated breath to finally get Rufus back.
