The Handmaid’s Tale: Yvonne Strahovski gets snubbed at the 2018 Emmys

Yvonne Strahovski did not walk away with an Emmy this year–and we are so not happy about it!

Yvonne Strahovski shined in season 2 of The Handmaid’s Tale as the loyal wife and original supporter of the world of Gilead. While she was a force to be reckoned with in season 1, it is in season 2 where she really steps into the limelight and kicks some major ass.

Strahovski’s portrayal of Serena was commendable because she had to convey a myriad of complex emotions as she started to realize just how brutal the world she had created was. There were subtle hints of humanity and kindness in Serena during the second season all of which was made possible by Strahovski’s groundbreaking performance.

This year the Supporting Actress in a Drama Series category was filled with the best of the best from this past season of television, and it was quite the tough call to make. Thandie Newton of Westworld walked away with the award, and deservedly so as she did such an amazing job playing the character of Maeve.

If Yvonne Strahovski didn’t win, we’re okay with the fact that it was Newton she lost to. Nonetheless, this was a major snub because Strahovski’s performance was raw, real, tragic, and on a whole different level. She essentially carried the second season and without her, it would not have been the gripping story it was.

It’s disheartening to know that she didn’t win the Emmy after giving the performance of a lifetime, and the snub still stings days later. However, we have high hopes that she will shine once again in season 3 and next year will be her year.

In season 2 of The Handmaid’s Tale, Strahovski’s Serena underwent a dramatic transformation and by the season’s end, she was willing to let June walk away with the baby. It’s baffling to think that viewers could feel sympathy for a character that has done so many horrible things even within the second season, but alas it did happen.

dark. Next. Yvonne Strahovski deserves to win the Emmy for The Handmaid’s Tale

This is a testament to Strahovski’s talent and why she was absolutely snubbed for her chance to win an Emmy! Ugh, not cool, not cool at all.
