Run: Domhnall Gleeson cast in upcoming HBO pilot

Star Wars actor Domhnall Gleeson cast in the upcoming HBO pilot Run.
Irish actor Domhnall Gleeson has been cast in the HBO comedic thriller Run according to Deadline. Seeing Gleeson in this new setting may be a bit surprising for viewers who have come to know him for his film roles, as Gleeson will be playing an Irish man named Billy Johnson, a life guru from a wealthy family.
This is the first major TV role for Gleeson, as the roles that have recently brought him into the public eye have all been in film. Gleeson is best known for his role as General Hux in Star Wars The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi, as well as for playing Bill Weasley in Harry Potter. Domhnall is also the son of actor Brendan Gleeson, who currently plays Detective Bill Hodges in Mr. Mercedes, the adaption of Stephen King’s best-selling novel.
Run is the brainchild of the same creator of Killing Eve and is being branded as a not just a comedic thriller, but a “romantic-comedy-thriller.” This is an interesting blend of story genres and has the potential to turn out very well or not work at all. For example, romantic thrillers are usually fairly simple as the two genres can usually be made to compliment each other fairly well. The same goes for comedy/thrillers and romantic comedies are put together so often they are more commonly referred to as “Rom-Coms.”
But combining elements of romance, thriller, and comedy all together is quite an unusual venture for a TV pilot. Only time will tell how well this combination works, but it certainly is an interesting proposal.
